With the death of the last Ming emperor, a Council of Elders would organize the resistance in Jiangsu against the Taiping, inspired by European Ideals, which had begun to spread in Shanghai and form a defense centered around Nanjing. Wu Chenggong new regime was couped a few months later by another general, hampering the general war effort against the Taiping. The last Ming Emperor was couped by an ambitious general, his successor eventually taking shelter on the island of Taiwan, in the Tungning Kingdom.

The new Taiping dynasty created by Li Xiuquing, effectively challenged the rule of the Ming, establishing a new order in Southern China. The movement was only noticed by the Ming when the rebellion could not be easily quelled. The local warlord was soon put to death, his troops joining the Taiping. A weird mix of Christianity and local Confucian beliefs, the Taiping were nonetheless able to convince the peasants to join their ranks to purify the Middle Kingdom and allow the True Faith to enlighten the Chinese People. The peasants were led by a Millenarian Figure who had begun to spread his teachings throughout the Southern Provinces. But in 1746 another peasant rebellion erupted near Canton. Neither of the two could decisively win against one another and break the stalemate. But if the nation manage to defeat and reclaim all its core lands from its enemies, two path open up for the Regency: the rising of a new emperor or the creation of the First Chinese Republic, and ultimately for both, the unification of China.īefore 1746, many warlords struggled for the control of China, with two prominent one the Manchu Qing and the falling Ming whose power was centered around Nanjing. Initially at war in 1836 against Tungning, the Regency is in a precarious position as all its three neighbors want to claim the Nanjing region for themselves. It was established by men from the Jiangsu area following the fall of the southern Ming to protect the interests of the province against the foreign Manchus and the fanatical Taiping.
